Job Description:

Job purpose The Human Resources Director is responsible for human resources and administrative tasks to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing human resource practices at Great Plains Technology Center. This includes assisting the Deputy Superintendent in developing and training school policy and procedures and other personnel-related matters. Duties and responsibilities--- Perform administrative and personnel duties to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the Human Resources Department.--- Administer and perform all HR Tasks in compliance with Federal, State, and local employment laws.--- Respond to and refer to the proper authority any administrative or personnel-related request or questions to ensure the legal, timely, and professional resolution thereof. Inform the Deputy Superintendent of any potential HR problems, to include disciplinary proceedings, workers' compensation claims, harassment complaints, insurance or benefits issues, position vacancies, etc.--- Assist in the mediation of disciplinary procedures, as needed.--- Coordinate and maintain GPTC's staffing, selection, and retention program, to include but not limited to, recruiting, initial screening of resumes, pre-screening of applicants, interviewing, hiring, employee in-processing/out-processing, according to EEO and other legal guidelines. Ensure the staffing program meets goals of attracting and recruiting the best qualified; consistency during new employee orientation; employee engagement practices are in place; and employee retention programs meet GPTC staffing needs.--- Assist in the administration of employee insurance and health and welfare benefits in accordance with employee eligibility and COBRA.--- Assist the Deputy Superintendent in revising, maintaining, and writing GPTC policies and procedures.--- Maintain and ensure record keeping and documentation of personnel matters is in accordance with Federal and State laws and school policy.--- Assist in the production of applicable HR reports, to include but not limited to Affirmative Action, EEO-1 Report, the Vets 100 Reporting, etc.--- Communicate GPTC policies, procedures, and work practices as well as relevant HR changes to management and staff.--- Assist in the development of job descriptions.--- Keep current on all HR issues, pending changes, and compliance regulations.--- Ensure organization-wide compliance with Federal, State, and local employment laws.--- Work with management to establish annual salary compensation structure.--- Coordinate the employee performance evaluation system.--- Coordinate the drug and alcohol awareness program.--- Perform other duties as required by the Superintendent. Qualifications--- Five or more years' experience in Human Resources.--- Bachelor's degree in a human resources area.--- Professional in HR (PHR) or SHRM-Certified Professional (CP) Certification (preferred)--- Knowledge of human resources management principles.--- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local employment laws.--- Organizational skills.--- Problem-solving and analytical skills.--- Excellent oral and written communication skills.--- Customer service skills, to include ability to work well with all people at all levels of the organization and public.--- Ability to safeguard and manage personal privacy information.--- Ability to exhibit a tactful, respectful, and professional demeanor so as to build workforce trust and credibility.--- Ability to work well under pressure.--- Ability to meet deadlines.--- Ability to manage multiple projects.--- Demonstrated ability to perform data entry and database navigational skills.--- Extensive knowledge of MS Office software.--- Ability to work in a team environment and coordinating with multiple people in the successful completion of tasks or projects. Working conditionsThe Director of Human Resources typically works in an office environment, but the mission of the school may require work in other workplaces. A standard workweek is required, but additionally may often require evening and weekend hours to accommodate activities such as Board meetings and representation of Great Plains at public events. Prolonged sitting or stand is required. Direct reports--- none Requirements Required qualifications: 5 or more years' experience in Human Resources; Bachelor's Degree in human resources or a related area; Certified as Professional in HR (PHR).
