City, OK 73104 Department: Adult Emergency Department (Dept. 78000)
Job Type: Full-time | 36 hours/week | 12-hour shifts (3 12s with
weekend requirements) Position overview The RN Emergency provides
direct nursing care to adult patients in a high-volume emergency
department, managing conditions ranging from minor complaints to
life-threatening emergencies. This traveler role supports census
surges and ED holds while ensuring safe, timely, and
patient-centered emergency care in a fast-paced, team-based
environment. Key responsibilities Assume responsibility for an
assigned group of emergency patients, including ongoing assessment,
prioritization, and coordination of care. Document patient
responses to nursing interventions and prescribed treatments
accurately and in a timely manner in the electronic health record.
Assist physicians and advanced practice providers with
examinations, minor procedures, and diagnostics at the bedside.
Obtain and monitor physiological data (vital signs, cardiac rhythm,
oxygenation, pain level), recognize changes, and intervene as
clinically indicated. Administer medications, IV infusions, and
blood products safely in accordance with emergency department and
hospital policies. Deliver competent, safe, and efficient emergency
nursing care, including participation in triage, resuscitation, and
stabilization activities as appropriate. Communicate care plans and
discharge instructions clearly to patients and families, including
follow-up needs and return precautions. Educate patients and
families about emergency department processes and hospital
procedures, addressing questions and concerns. Coordinate referrals
and handoffs to inpatient units, outpatient services, and other
members of the care team. Delegate appropriate tasks to support
staff and collaborate with technicians and ancillary personnel to
optimize patient flow. Perform other related duties as assigned to
support ED operations, throughput, and patient experience. Required
qualifications & skills Minimum 1 year of RN experience; prior
Emergency Department or high-acuity acute care experience strongly
preferred. Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing
program. Active RN license in Oklahoma or multistate compact (eNLC)
license. Current BLS (AHA) and ACLS (AHA) certifications. Knowledge
of professional nursing standards, emergency procedures, and triage
principles. Strong organizational and coordination skills with the
ability to multitask and prioritize in a rapidly changing
environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills and
ability to work collaboratively with physicians, EMS, and
multidisciplinary teams. Cultural sensitivity, adaptability, basic
computer proficiency, and comfort working as a traveler in a new
system. Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or active
pursuit of BSN. Ideal candidate: Experienced Emergency/ED traveler
RN who can quickly adapt to OU Medical Center workflows and support
peak census and ED hold volumes. Core competencies Emergency
patient assessment, triage support, and rapid recognition of
clinical deterioration. Medication and IV administration, including
high-alert drugs and emergency medications. Accurate, timely
clinical documentation in a fast-paced ED environment. Rapid
decision-making and prioritization under pressure. Team
collaboration with physicians, EMS, respiratory therapy, and
